About Project
What happens when professional experience meets the raw, unbridled energy of a film school environment? “The Miracles” is the result of a high-octane collaboration between Konstantinos Psomas and a talented team of emerging filmmakers. This project was a “fun-first”, low budget experiment designed to push the boundaries of visual storytelling while mentoring the next generation of industry talent.
Sculpting Emotion Through Light
As the Director and Cinematographer, my primary objective was to use the lighting setup as a silent narrator. Rather than simply illuminating the scene, I focused on using high-contrast, motivated lighting to shape the emotional landscape of the film. By leaning into deep shadows and controlled highlights, I created a mood that mirrors the internal struggles of the characters—oscillating between isolation and a flickering sense of hope.
Every light source was intentionally placed to “carve” the actors’ features, emphasizing the raw, unfiltered honesty of our non-professional and entry-level cast. This minimalist yet deliberate approach to cinematography allowed us to achieve a high-end aesthetic that feels both grounded and deeply atmospheric.
Authenticity in Performance
One of the most rewarding aspects of this production was working with a cast of non-professional and entry-level actors. By stepping away from seasoned veterans, we were able to capture a sense of vulnerability and “first-time” honesty that perfectly mirrored the film’s themes of human struggle and quiet resilience. This raw approach allowed the narrative to feel grounded and deeply personal, proving that powerful performances don’t always require a lifetime of credits—sometimes, they just require a moment of true connection.
The Creative Sandbox
This short served as a real-world narrative environment where student creators could see firsthand how professional gear is used to evoke specific psychological responses from an audience.
“The Miracles” explores themes of sacrifice and collective strength, proving that even a “little project” can carry immense weight when fueled by a shared vision. It’s a testament to the fact that the most powerful stories often emerge from the simple joy of creating together.
