About Project
The Project
I recently handled the cinematography for an exclusive segment on MEGA Channel’s hit weekend show, “Xamogela kai Pali,” hosted by Sissy Christidou. We sat down with Marseaux—one of the most dynamic young singer-songwriters making waves in the Greek music scene right now—for an intimate, center-stage conversation. The goal was to strip away the typical morning-show gloss and capture a genuinely raw, authentic dialogue that let her personality shine through.
Setting the Scene for the Marseaux Interview
To capture the artistic essence of this Marseaux interview, we chose the iconic Bempo Theater in Athens as our backdrop. Rather than a standard studio setup, placing the artist and the presenter in the empty auditorium among the classic red velvet seats created a striking visual metaphor. It offered a raw, behind-the-scenes atmosphere that felt both grand and deeply personal.
The Technical Craft: Sight and Sound
Shooting a broadcast-quality interview in a large, dimly lit theatrical space requires a precise balance of lighting, composition, and audio engineering. Here is how I approached the technical execution:
- Cinematography & Framing: I utilized a shallow depth of field to isolate the subjects from the vast background. By using the leading lines of the theater rows, the composition naturally draws the viewer’s eye straight to the conversation, maintaining a cinematic quality while ensuring the focus remains entirely on the subjects’ expressions and connection.
- Lighting the Stage: The primary challenge was illuminating the talent beautifully without losing the moody, ambient atmosphere of the theater. I designed a lighting setup that provided soft, flattering key light on Marseaux and the interviewer, sculpting their features while allowing the background to fall into a rich, natural shadow.
- Capturing Clean Audio: A vast, empty theater can be an acoustic nightmare for dialogue due to intense echoing. To guarantee pristine broadcast sound, I utilized high-quality lavalier microphones positioned discreetly on both subjects. This ensured crisp, isolated voice capture, filtering out room reverb and delivering the flawless audio required for national television.
